Teaching Academic Language: "What Do Plant Parts Do?"
In this lesson, I taught scientific vocabulary through a hands-on exploration of plant parts and their functions. Students learned terms like "roots," "leaves," and "system" by creating concept maps and forming connections (e.g., "Roots absorb water"). Pair discussions and writing activities reinforced their understanding and improved academic language skills in a collaborative setting.
This approach helped students internalize vocabulary and grasp scientific concepts. For future lessons, I plan to integrate technology, like simulations or vocabulary apps, to enhance engagement and retention, alongside formative assessments to track progress.
